There is this thing going on that confuses the crap out of religious people, it is that atheists are becoming more and more organized in the USA and do this with Atheist churches.
I must confess that reading this initially gave me a big "HUH??" moment , but a second later it started to make sense to me this is the best way of getting atheists together and giving more and more "closet atheists" the courage to come out as a non believer..
Here in the Netherlands where I live , it isn't a big deal if someone says "I'm an Atheist" but I was really shocked when I heard that astounding numbers of homeless kids in large American cities are that way because their parents kicked them out after confessing they don't believe in god..
How Christian of them .. I was really speechless when I heard this for the first time how in the world can someone kick his own child in the street just because of this stupid faith notion..
It does not compute for me, and maybe the reason is that I never was a believer in the first place, like my parents, my grand parents ..
But OK back to Atheists churches..
Sometimes.... well... very often I comment on religious posts on a website called Sodahead (the link will take you to my profile there) Just google dutchheretic and you will probably find enough of them, and it is really a hoot to see the same people who in other pools there always say "Atheism is just another religion" now go out of their way to declare Atheism NOT a religion look here for an example of this..
Naturally is this very right wing conservative website crawling with all kinds of sorts of fanatic and fundamentalist Christians , in other words a nice play ground for me..
It really cracks me up to read the confusion in them when the term "atheist church" is mentioned.. church ????? Sure why not ? it it just a place of gathering of like minded people, and hey put a good rock band there and have speakers tell their story..
It is a great idea, when you look at it more closely, it is fighting religion with their own weapons namely churches ...

Atheism can really use this , remembering the videos of the Reason rally of 2012 and all the speeches by people like biologist Richard Dawkins, musician Tim Minchin, MythBusters co-host Adam Savage, actor-comedian Eddie Izzard, Paul Provenza, PZ Myers, Jessica Ahlquist, Dan Barker, magician James Randi and many others including my personal favorite Cristina Rad from Romania.
This is what we need, to show that the numbers of atheists are much larger than the religious majority is lead to believe
Man I wish we had something cool like atheist churches here in the Netherlands, but I guess the 56% non church goers here speak in numbers for them selves..
Atheist churches, well I have Pastafarian as religion on most of my profiles , and that can also be the reason for funny conversations and confusion..
Hey maybe we need an atheist pope and I know just the guy to ask :
I bet he can can get some time off from his busy movie schedule...
